BMW aims for a series of firsts with its new 1 Series
THIS is the new BMW 1 Series and it marks the first production Beemer to get under the 100g/km mark. The 116d EfficientDynamics managed 99g/100km.
There are new TwinPower turbocharged petrols and revised diesels and, of course, there is rear-wheel drive.
It goes on sale on September 17, with three diesels and two petrols.
The range includes a 116i, 118i, 116d, 118d and a 120d.
The company's iDrive system comes on cars with special edition (SE) specification and higher.
Under the bonnet they've fitted a four-cylinder petrol engine -- the new all-alloy 1.6-litre -- with TwinPower turbo technology. This is a first for the marque.
You can have a six-speed manual or a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
Adding to anticipated better handling and ride are a wider track, 51mm at the front and 71mm at the rear.
Standard specification includes cloth seats, a leather steering wheel, chrome exhaust and keyless start.
SE adds a free-standing hi-res 6.5-inch flatscreen monitor for your iDrive controller, a Bluetooth hands-free facility and a multi-function steering wheel.
Sport includes special seats, leather steering wheel, high-gloss black interior trim, 17-inch, star-spoke, light alloys, dark chrome exhaust pipe and high-gloss black kidney grille.
The urban model has cloth/leather seats, an acrylic glass interior trim (black or white), 17-inch v-spoke alloys, chrome kidney grille with white slat sides.
