'Ain't there one damn song that can make me break down and cry?'

WE all have a few of them – the tunes we constantly replay while we're driving. Of course, they drive everyone else in the car mad, but they're just passengers, and everyone knows that the driver decides!

WE all have a few of them – the tunes we constantly replay while we're driving. Of course, they drive everyone else in the car mad, but they're just passengers, and everyone knows that the driver decides!

We asked a few well-known faces around town what tunes they come back to, time and again, when they're behind the wheel.

PJ Gallagher

The Fat Lady Sings Arclight

One of my favourite songs and the first song I remember playing on cassette when I started driving on my own. That song props up all the time for me and always brings back good memories. I love a song that keeps me in the car after I've gotten to where I'm going and that's number one.

Damien Dempsey Patience

This is one I like to ruin by trying to sing along to. I try to fool myself into thinking I sound like Damo when I sing because we are both from Dublin but that's a fool's logic really. Also having a bit of patience in the van is no harm, especially when you are driving around a multi-story for the fourth time looking for parking because you know you can't actually fit a transit van inside it.

Declan O'Rourke Gallileo

Seriously, if you don't know that song, give it a listen as soon as you can. I'd love to be able to sing like that but I'd have more chance of making it to the top of Mount Everest in a pair of cowboy boots and Speedos. He has a voice that would melt your head gasket.

Keith Barry

Pink Get the Party Started

It always gets me in the mood for the weekend !!!

Queen A Kind of Magic

Reminds me of all the gigs I did in Tramore when I was in my teens where the stage manager used that song as my intro.

Bryan Adams Everything I Do

It's my wedding song – and it reminds me that the best wedding I was ever at was MINE!!

Ian Dempsey

George Benson On Broadway

My prized possession for motoring until the cassette (yes, it was that long ago) was stolen from my car many years ago. It's got that climactic feel to it, and you have to be careful not to take your hands off the steering wheel when the guitar solo kicks in. It always reminds me of how amazing New York is!

David Bowie Young Americans

Another Bowie track that never gets tired for me – I think the song has a brilliant driving beat and its lyrics are hopeful and fresh. You should hear me sing along to 'Ain't there one damn song that can make me break down and cry' at the top of my voice. It's also my ringtone.

Frank Sinatra The Lady Is A Tramp

This works best for me when I'm driving through Dublin, usually at a slow enough pace, and I conjure up my list of people who I have had little battles with which have never been resolved. Me? Hold a grudge? Never!

Lorraine Keane

Chet Baker Time After Time

I'll listen to anything by Chet Baker. It reminds me of the time Peter and I were dating. He was recording an album in a studio in Tori Amos's house in Kinsale, Co Cork, and I would fly down to see him at the weekends. We would go for long drives and listen to this album. It was very romantic.

Madre Deus

An amazing Portuguese band who are so talented and incredible to drive to.

George Michael Listen Without Prejudice

This album reminds me of the time I was in college. My parents bought me a Sony Discman and this was the first CD I bought for it. I was only on the bus, but it got me to college and back every day for the best part of a year. The only problem was I found it difficult to 'Listen without Singing ... ' and had a few embarrassing moments when, without realising, I would burst into song on the bus!

Don Wycherly

The White Stripes Seven Nation Army

The White Stripes' album, Elephant, was left in a rental car we picked up in Spain and the kids just loved it, so we had it going the whole holiday, which was a great one and, every time I hear it, I smile.

Dolly Parton

I was given a tape of hers when I was 14 and I just loved the stories in her songs. The album I most associate her with is My Tennessee Mountain Home, which I used to listen to on my tape cassette. I still come over all cheesy when I hear the Queen of Blue Ridge Mountain.

Movie scores

My all-time favourite movie score is Once upon a time in America by Morricone, as it has wonderful tonal changes from light to shade and immediately brings me right back to the movie which I loved and I would happily take it on a long drive knowing that was in the cd player.

Actor Don Wycherly is best known for his roles in Father Ted, Bachelors Walk and Ballykissangel
