Independent.ie readers have entered our inaugural competition... and now the shortlists are in. Our celebrity judges are busy voting - and now we're asking the readers to vote too. There are three awards to vote on, and a woof-worthy prize for a reader to win!

MEET THE JUDGES


TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. The promoters are Independent News and Media Public Limited Company, 27-32 Talbot St, Dublin 1 (“INM”). INM will provide the prize to the winner.

2. Send a photo, video or story in accordance with these terms and conditions to enter a competition to win one of the prizes below.

3. To be entered into the competition for the award of Ireland’s Best-Looking Dog, the entrant is required to send a picture. The prizes for the winner of the Ireland’s Best-Looking Dog competition are; 1. A family ticket to Ireland’s Family Pet Expo, which admits two adults and three children to the event. 2. Six months’ supply of Pedigree food for one dog.

4. To be entered into the competition for the award of Ireland’s Best Trick, the entrant is required to send a video. The prizes for the winner of the Ireland’s Best Trick competition are; 1. A family ticket to Ireland’s Family Pet Expo, which admits two adults and three children to the event. 2. Six months’ supply of Pedigree food for one dog. 3. A €100 voucher for Palmerstown Veterinary Hospital.

5. To be entered into the competition for the award of Lifetime Achievement Award, the entrant shall submit a story or length of text with no accompanying media (max 200 words). The prizes for the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award competition are; 1. A family ticket to Ireland’s Family Pet Expo, which admits two adults and three children to the event. 2. Six months’ supply of Pedigree food for one dog. 3. €100 worth of treats for your dog from Littlewoods Ireland.

6. For the purposes of clauses 3,4 and 5 “send” shall include: sharing on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #Ireland’sTopDog; an e-mail sent to topdog@independent.ie; or, by post to Ireland’s Top Dog 2017, Independent.ie, Independent House, 27-32 Talbot Street, Dublin 1.

7. A shortlist of entries is created at the discretion of Independent.ie and put forward to both the judges and a readers’ vote, which will be hosted on Independent.ie from Monday, October 23. The final choices for winners will based on judge’s own judgement and at their discretion (40pc weighting of final result) and readers’ vote (60pc weighting of final result). Readers will have the opportunity to vote on Independent.ie from October 23, 2017.

8. Only one entry per named entrant and email address will be accepted per category above.

9. An entrant can enter all three categories subject to clause 7.

10. In circumstances where the entrant does not abide by these terms, INM reserves the right in its sole discretion to decide which category the entry is located to, if any.

11. By entering, all eligible entrants agree to abide by each and all these Terms and Conditions. The ad and entry form part of the overall Terms and Conditions Misrepresentative or fraudulent entries will invalidate an entry. Where a competition involves a voting process: offering or receiving any incentive for voting is not permitted and will invalidate the vote, and may disqualify the recipient of the vote. INM reserves the right, with or without cause, to exclude entrants and withhold prizes for violating any of these terms and conditions. INM reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions. Any amendments will be published on the Website.

12. Entrants have from October 3rd 2017 to October 21st, 11.59pm 2017 to submit their entries.

13. The competition is open to anybody over 18. INM reserves the right to request written proof of age from the winner.

14. Employees and agents of INM or any company connected with the competition or any of their associated companies are not eligible to take part in the applicable competition, nor are their immediate family members. For these purposes an "immediate family member" includes a spouse, partner, child, step child, grandchild, brother, step brother, sister, step sister, parent, step parent or legal guardian.

15. Use of a false name or address by an entrant will disqualify them from receiving any prize.

16. Entrants will retain copyright in their submitted entries including but not limited to any video content submitted to the competition by using the social media hashtag #IrelandsTopDog, however, by entering, all entrants licence INM a worldwide royalty-free perpetual licence to edit, publish and use each entry in any and all media (including print and online) for publicity and news purposes. INM reserves the right to publish entries (including parts of entries) although publication does not necessarily mean the entrant has won a prize.

17. Each prize is subject to the specific directions and terms and conditions published above. In the case of conflict between these rules and such specific directions/terms and conditions, these rules shall prevail. By participating in this competition, you are deemed to accept these rules and the specific directions/terms and conditions applicable to the individual prizes, as specified above.

18. Failure to claim a prize within two weeks of being notified by INM will make any claim invalid. No responsibility is accepted for entries damaged, lost or mislaid and proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of delivery. No entries will be accepted by agents, in bulk or from third parties.

19. Winners will be notified within 20 days of the relevant closing date and names of winners of major promotions are available by sending an SAE to Independent News & Media, 27-32 Talbot St, Dublin 1 up to one month after the closing date.

20. INM will endeavour to deliver all prizes within four weeks of winning. Where this is not possible the winner will be notified of the delay.

21. Any additional costs and expenses incurred by the prize winner are to be the responsibility of the prize winner.

22. The determination and decision of INM on all matters shall be final and no competition correspondence will be entered into. INM reserve the right in their reasonable discretion: (a) to disqualify any claimant, competitor or nominee whose conduct is contrary to the spirit of the rules or the intention of the competition and to declare as void any or all of their claims or entries based on such conduct; (b) to declare as void any claims or entries resulting from any printing, production and/or distribution errors (including but not limited to any error(s) in the magazine, this website, and/or other printed materials, or where there has been error(s) in any aspect of the preparation for or conduct of the competition materially affecting the result of the competition or the number of claimants or the value of claims; (c) to add to or to waive any rules on reasonable notice; and/or (d) to cancel the competition or any part of it at any stage in the event of circumstances beyond INM’s reasonable control.

23. Prizes are non-transferable, may not be re-sold and are subject to availability. INM reserves the right at their sole discretion to substitute any such prize with a prize of equal value.

24. The competition may also be declared void should a printing or production error in connection with the competition appear in the magazine or on this website.

25. Publicity may be given to competition winners and winners’ names and images may be published on Independent.ie website, social media channels and other website(s) relating to the competition. Winners must co-operate fully for publicity purposes if so required.

26. All participants agree not to engage in any interviews or make any statements in connection with or arising from the competition without the written consent of INM.

27. INM reserves the right to publish entries (including parts of entries) other than the winning entry and publication does not necessarily mean the entrant has won a prize.

28. All competition entrants can opt-in to marketing materials by ticking the appropriate box(es) on the online form.

29. INM will not be liable for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections that may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant’s ability to participate in the competition. Other than death or personal injury arising from the acts or omissions of INM or its employees, INM will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of the winner’s (or their guest’s) enjoyment of the prize.
