There's a lot to love about Irish eco-lux label We Are Islander's spring/summer collection, entitled Tidal IV. It's made up of organic cottons, hand-painted silks and Irish linen, all made in Ireland using locally produced and sustainable materials.

The hand-painted silks are particularly beautiful and perfect summer wear, especially this high-waisted skirt made from bamboo silk. Team with the tunic shown here for a high-impact look. Buy: Skirt, €230; tunic €120, available at

Heritage made new

Summer is here (if only someone would tell the weather) so why not book a family staycation head at the Heritage Killenard in Laois. The hotel is offering a three-night luxury package with breakfast and dinner in the Arlington Restaurant. Younger guests can avail of a Wii room, junior golf and the Mystical Fairy Garden. Grown-ups won't be stuck either with options of tennis, spa treatments or the cinema. Book:

Sweet William

Everybody loves Bill Murray and to celebrate the actor's greatness, the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin's Smithfield is having a Bill Murray season, where you can enjoy all his finest moments. There's Lost in Translation, Kingpin, Groundhog Day and a double bill of Ghostbusters on in the last weekend in June, followed by the cinema's first big-screen karaoke party. Book:

Soul sisters

You'll have to get in there quick if you want to pick up your tickets to Body & Soul. The arts and music festival, which takes place from June 19-21 at Ballinlough Castle, Co Westmeath, sells out each year. Headline acts include Leftfield, Superfurry Animals and Nightmares on Wax and the family-friendly atmosphere, children's programme, as well as spoken word, comedy happenings and artisan food all combine to make it a magical way to spend the summer solstice.

House music

One of Ireland's longest running music festivals, KBC Great Music in Irish Houses, starts on Tuesday with over 40 artists performing over six days in 10 unique venues, including the National Botanic Gardens, Kildruddery House and The Hugh Lane Gallery. Performers include Berlin's Armida Quartet, Irish bassoonist Peter Whelan and pianist Hugh Tinney. Info:

Pretty for petals

Beautiful blooms require an elegant vessel and Jenny Walsh's Pinch design is certainly that. Inspired by the shape of drops of water, two interlocking wooden forms support a glass tube, perfect for showing off a single flower or tiny arrangement, to give the wow factor to any dining table. Available in three sizes, they come in a custom-made, laser-cut gift box, making them an ideal gift.

Buy: €14-€22;

Bone idol

Bone broth is the next big thing in food trends, being both fairly healthy and totally delicious. You can get your fix of it at Bread & Bones, a new restaurant addition to Dublin's Millennium Walkway. The rice noodle soups are moreish and the filled Asian baguettes and bao are equally so, all served up in a pleasingly relaxed setting. Book:

Next weekend

Let's go fly a kite

Kite novices and experts (kitesperts?!) alike will enjoy the fun and fresh air at the Dublin Kite Festival. Taking place Sunday 14 June from 11am to 5pm on North Bull Island Beach on the Clontarf Road, there will be plenty of experts there to give you a hand and get you flying. Expect music, games, kite-making workshops, a kite-flying competition and the glorious spectacle of brightly coloured kites soaring above Dublin Bay. Details:

The Give It A Go Weekend on Achill Island is the perfect opportunity to try something out of the ordinary. You can enjoy taster sessions of lots of activities, ranging from surfing to horse riding, hiking, or even pitch and putt. There are reduced rates and customised sessions over the weekend, and visitors can kick back after their adventurous day at the Give It A Go Barbecue on Saturday night.
