THE best of Irish penthouse apartments are usually smaller than your average three bedroom family home. But this version at the Marina scheme in Malahide, North County Dublin, stretches to around one and a half times the size of the average dwelling.

Located at Malahide Marina, this two-bed unit is being made available on short term lease - weekly at €1,250 if required.

This might well suit visiting executives who want to be near the airport but in a 'get away from it all' part of town when the working day ends.

The living area is open plan and furnished with an eclectic eye (including the addition of an 'old Joanna' for the musician who fancies tickling the ivories of an evening).

The six-seater dining table is fitted into one of the sloping window alcove areas, as is a separate giant armchair. The kitchen has an American fridge/freezer and a full set of appliances. It's finished in hi-gloss neutrals and has an island unit with inset gas hob.

Off the entrance hall is the master bedroom with king size bed and a balcony overlooking Malahide Estuary and the Marina. There's a decadent free-standing double bath and separate walk-in rain shower.

A funky spiral staircase in the living area leads to the second double bedroom, also ensuite.

There is on-site parking and given the lease arrangement, the apartment is supplied with fresh linens and towels for new tenants and comes fully serviced.

For transport, Malahide is well served by the M1 and M50 interchanges, myriad bus routes and the Dart and Suburban rail links. Malahide Castle and grounds provide a place to walk and there are a variety of links courses in the vicinity.

Agent Bronwyn O'Dea says penthouses such as these attract two types of tenant: holidaymakers and executives.

"Many multi-nationals take a short term contract for business visitors and the property is well equipped with a 50in TV, fast Wifi and is comfortably furnished."

Recent visitors include a Chinese delegation who enjoyed the coastal location but within close proximity to top restaurants.

"There's definitely a need for more short term units in North County Dublin," adds O'Dea. "Guests are happy to pay for the luxury experience."
