Stradbally in tune with older buyers
Droimnín, Stradbally, Co Laois
The townland of Stradbally is well known as the home of Electric Picnic (and this year's Ploughing Championships). But the semi-retired downsizers casting an eye over the Droimnín development of two-bed detached homes are drawn to more tranquil environs.
Four of the 26 units at Droimnín were sold before the launch, all to buyers over the age of 55.
All of the homes cost from €120,000.
According to the selling agent, the owner of a nursing home beside the development is expanding the retirement home to a nearby building that will have a cafe that can be used by visitors and residents alike.
As a result, Droimnín is attracting older buyers who want to trade down from higher-maintenance larger homes to properties that will suit their lifestyles when they are in their 70s, 80s and 90s.
With that in mind, these two-beds come with a fully tiled wet room with enough space for a wheelchair and the location is close to golf, fishing and boating amenities.
The two bedrooms each have timber floors and extensive fitted wardrobes, and the fitted kitchen has a dining area in its large bay window and a patio door to the garden.
There are built-in cupboards in the entrance hall for extra storage, and the living room comes with a timber floor and a feature fireplace.
All modern conveniences are available just a short stroll from Droimnín, with shops, restaurants, churches, doctors and all amenities right on your doorstep. Droimnín is half a mile from Stradbally and a 10 minute drive to Portlaoise.
There is a post office, supermarket, pharmacies and cafes in the centre of Stradbally, and walks around the nearby lake or along the canal in Vicarstown.
