Traditionally seen as purely functional spaces, in recent years bathrooms have been quietly transforming themselves to spa-like levels of relaxation and great design. Feel like you're behind on the curve? Well don't, because whether you're starting from scratch or just want to give a few simple updates, there are so many brilliant new ideas coming through now it's an exciting time to get on board.

From changing up the lighting to installing great tapware, or simply adding new accessories, there are so many ways to give your bathroom a refresh. And if you're lucky enough to be planning a whole new look, the array of technological advances that have exploded on to the bathroom market in recent times is just dazzling. The key to creating an ambiance and getting the new luxe look is to be brave with your mix. Materials for flooring, tiling, walls and units have come such a long way that you can now have incredible wood and marble-look floors and durable wall treatments, and with so many companies now doing compact versions of high-end designs, space restraints no longer mean style should take a backseat. The hardest part? Just working out where to start...
