Birdwatchers, especially those fond of seabirds as opposed to LBBs (little brown birds), are drawn in great numbers to Kilmore Quay in Co Wexford. The two islands offshore there, Great Saltee and Little Saltee, comprise Ireland's largest bird sanctuary for puffins, cormorants and guillemots, among others.
About 500 metres from the village, at Ballyteigue, is an old but refurbished thatched cottage, with helpful mod cons including central heating and double glazing.
On the lower floor is a living room with a wood-burning stove, a dining room and a kitchenette. The ground floor also houses three bedrooms and a shower room, and there's another bedroom upstairs.
The cottage is about a 10 minutes walk from the long sandy beach of Ballyteigue Strand. And you can reach Rosslare harbour in about half an hour by car, should you need to leave the country in a hurry.
The agent is Keane Auctioneers in Wexford (053 912 3072) and the price €95,000.
