RTE star architect Dermot Bannon has admitted he has not joined social media websites Facebook and Twitter out of a fear he would not have any followers.

The Room to Improve star revealed that he does not think his musings would interest the Twitter community on a regular basis and he has never been tempted to join Facebook.

Speaking to the RTE Guide Dermot said: “I don’t think I have enough interesting stuff to say all the time.

“There’s always that thing ‘If I don’t have 10,000 followers am I a failure?’”

The architect is currently fronting the latest series of the popular RTE One programme but revealed that his relationship with “his worst nightmare” quantity surveyor Patricia Power can be a ceiling to his creativity.

Although the pair are good friends, Dermot said keeping to budgets can be the hardest thing about the build.

“Patricia’s job is to ensure that the project comes under budget. If the building is really ugly at the end, I have failed. If the building runs over budget she has failed. Some things are too important to let go and in that respect I will dig my heels in. A lot of the time if I do that for long enough she will find the money from elsewhere.

“We can’t do the storming out of the room but of course I chance my arm,” he said.
