The Aos Sí, a supernatural race in Irish mythology, were said to live underground in fairy forts, or mounds, in an invisible world with a parallel existence to those of humans. Many a fairy fort was protected from destruction over the centuries for fear of upsetting these mythical beings.
The mound at Dún Sí, near the estuary at Portmarnock, is said to have been the burial place of Maine, the son of Queen Medb of Connacht and King Ailill. This burial place has served as the inspiration for the eponymous Dún Sí, a Portmarnock development launching this weekend at St Marnock's Bay, a scheme off Station Road that was released in 2017. Dún Sí has planning for 150 houses, apartments and duplexes.
Prices for the first tranche of 26 houses start at €490,000 for a three-bed mid-terraced style with 1,201 sq ft of living space and at €500,000 for a three-bed semi-detached version of the same size.
The cheapest four-bed style is a 1,432 sq ft detached home priced from €605,000, while the mid-terraced four-bed, which is larger at 1,636 sq ft, costs from €630,000. The four-bed end-of-terrace design, which spans 1,743 sq ft, is priced from €675,000.
The brick-and-render fronted homes are just a three-minute walk from Portmarnock Dart station.
Viewings at Dún Sí will be held tomorrow and Sunday, from 2pm to 4pm.
