A blend of the old and new is the raison d'etre of 19 Pembroke Road in Ballsbridge, where architecture firm Brazil & Associates designed a new development of apartments integrated with a 19th-century building.
The scheme is tucked away off Pembroke Road, which leads onto Baggot Street, and was developed by Agricula, the company led by Damien Tansey, a Sligo-based property developer and solicitor. It comprises 12 bespoke apartments - six in the original Georgian building and six in the new-build section. The two sections are linked by a glass atrium.
The 12 units went on the market earlier this month. Prices range from €650,000 for a one-bed apartment in the new section to €1.1m for a two-bed duplex in the period building, with sizes going from 577 sq ft to 1,203 sq ft.
In the Georgian structure, original period features have been enhanced or restored, including ornate plasterwork, high ceilings, fire surrounds, and large sash windows. The proportions in the new-build section reflect those in the old.
The kitchens in each unit were supplied by O'Connors of Drumleck and come with Siemens appliances and Silestone Lagoon worktops. There is engineered smoked oak flooring in the apartments situated in the Georgian section, with white oiled oak flooring in the new apartments. Formality designed a communal urban courtyard for prospective residents of 19 Pembroke Road.
