According to received wisdom, the phrase "by hook or by crook" dates back to a vow made by Oliver Cromwell in the 17th century to take the city of Waterford either by Hook Head, on the Wexford side of Waterford Harbour, or by the village of Crook, on the Waterford side of the estuary.
The lighthouse at the fishing village of Dunmore East looks out towards Hook Lighthouse, inspiring the name for a new development in the Co Waterford village. Lighthouse Way was launched at Dunmore East at the end of May and will comprise 61 homes when it's completed. The properties will likely appeal to commuters to Waterford City, a 15-minute drive away.
Carey Homes, the Co Waterford-based developer of Lighthouse Way, has released eight homes at the scheme. Prices start at €245,000 for a three-bed semi and at €275,000 for a four-bed version.
The front exterior of each block-built home is finished in a combination of brick and nap plaster, with PVC future-proofed windows and a tiled roof. There is a charging point for an electric car near the cobble-locked front driveway, and there are gardens to the front and rear.
An air-to-water heat pump was installed in each of the houses, which come not just with an A2 BER but meet the new Nearly Zero Energy Buildings standards.
Viewings at Lighthouse Way are by appointment and take place at a showhouse at Monksfield, another Carey Homes scheme in Dungarvan.
