For centuries, ships arriving from across the Irish Sea would dock at Ringsend, and by the 19th century, the area was home to a slew of factories that made the ropes that enabled the seamen to trim the sails and set anchor.
Because rope-making involved twisting long strands of hemp together, roperies required long, narrow sites. It is on one of these sites that The Ropery, a new scheme of nine three and four-bed townhouses, was built.
The scheme is situated off South Lotts Road, beside the Gasworks apartment complex. Prices for the terraced homes start at €730,000 for a 1,033-sq ft three-bed townhouse, at €760,000 for the only three-bed with a study, and at €850,000 for a four-bed measuring 1,399 sq ft. The four-bed showhouse and its contents are priced from €895,000.
The sleek facade of each house is finished in bespoke Italian brick, with cedar cladding to the first-floor elevation. The living accommodation on the first floor has floor-to-ceiling glazing and sliding glass doors that lead out to a screened terrace with artificial grass. There's also a paved terrace off the ground floor.
The handleless kitchen with Silestone quartz worktops from Athena Kitchens has a high-gloss finish, as do the bedroom wardrobes. There is grey porcelain tiling to the bathrooms and ensuites.
Each home at The Ropery comes with a parking space, but given the development's central location, residents are likely to get more use out of the on-site bicycle stands.
Viewings at The Ropery will be held between 12pm and 2pm tomorrow.
