With Cork City rents now almost a third higher than their Celtic Tiger peak, it's little wonder tenants in the city are taking advantage of the help-to-buy tax rebate scheme to purchase their first home in commuter towns.
By the time Brookhill launched in Carrigaline, about 14km south of Cork City, on May 25, some 500 buyers had registered their interest in the scheme. Most of the prospective purchasers were novice buyers, with downsizers also accounting for a chunk of the interest.
Of the first 15 homes released at Brookhill, eight are still available, with prices starting at €305,000 for a three-bed semi measuring 1,212 sq ft. A slightly larger three-bed semi, spanning 1,236 sq ft, is priced from €310,000, while a two-bed detached home extending over 1,061 sq ft costs from €312,500. Prices for the four-beds start at €365,000 for a semi-detached style with 1,541 sq ft of living space, with a detached version, measuring 1,684 sq ft, selling for €450,000.
Brookhill is situated on the western side of Carrigaline, which will give residents easy access to the routes to Cork city centre and to employment hubs such as Ringaskiddy and Cork Airport Business Park.
Carrigaline is served by two bus routes, including one of Ireland's only 24-hour bus services. Locally, there are plans afoot for a new bypass road that will connect Brookhill directly with Carrigaline's Main Street.
