Behind its Georgian façade, 17 Serpentine Avenue in Ballsbridge has been completely rebuilt by Red Rock Developments to create an ultra-modern home with 21st-century touches.
Red Rock restored the façade, which was all that remained of the Georgian era, and created a new three-bed home spanning 1,780 sq ft behind it, with the help of interior designers Wall Morris Design.
The developer then added period-style replica iron railings to the front so No17 would blend seamlessly with the neighbouring properties. The home is now for sale for €1.495m.
The front driveway, which is large enough to accommodate two cars, was paved in granite sourced from Italy. To lend a sense of uniformity, the engineered, oak-finished floorboards were laid from the entrance hallway straight to the rear glazed wall, where floor-to-ceiling glass doors open on to a private patio and garden.
The open-plan kitchen/living area to the back of the house was fitted with hand-made, hand-painted units from Newton Woodworks, as well as Smeg and Hotpoint appliances and Carrara countertops. There is a traditional-style sitting room to the front of No 17.
A central staircase leads to the first floor, which is home to the three double bedrooms - two of which are ensuite - and a family bathroom. There are floor-to-ceiling hand-crafted wardrobes to all three bedrooms.
The house is heated with a Daikin air-to-water system that contributes to the A3 BER, a rare feat for a new-build with so much history.
