Must-haves for your home
A selection of the must-have items to have in your house.
PUT YOUR FEET UP
A patterned footstool can bring colour into the living room ensemble (but not if you have a patterned carpet). This is the Revive pattern stool (currently €219 from www.dfs.ie).
COFFEE DOCK
Most coffee-pod machines make good espresso but you'd be struggling to get a nice big mug of coffee out of them. Nespresso by KitchenAid is a new machine that claims to offer a lot more flexibility. It costs €379 for the non-milk version from Nespresso boutiques and Harvey Norman.
IRISH ROOTS
An alternative to red terracotta, these flowerpots from Louis Mulcahy Pottery are made in Kerry and decorated with his Smoilín glaze. Smoilín means 'thrush' in Irish, hence the speckled band at the rim (€32.95 from www.louismulcahy.com).
SUPER CHEF
The good old Kenwood Chef has been around since the 1950s but it's showing a lot of staying power. The most recent version, the Kenwood Chef Sense, has just been given the Gold iF Award for design and functionality. It's a big purchase and costs around €550 from stockists, including Arnotts, Brown Thomas, Harvey Norman, and DID.
