What's been the best decade of your life so far and why?

I'm 28 and life is a whirlwind. I've started as a judge on Super Garden on RTE and I've moved in with my boyfriend, Conor. We've just got a couple of cute kittens.

What was the worst moment of your life?

My granddad, Henry Lafferty, dying in 2011. He raised me, and was like a dad to me. He's on my mind all the time.

What secret skill or talent do you have?

I'm a singer with the Dublin Gospel Choir.

If there was one song you associated with your youth, what would it be?

Britney Spears' Baby One More Time. I was about 13 or 14 when it came out.

What was the last lie you told?

I told someone they looked better than they did. We all do it.

What do you consider the greatest work of art?

Gaudi's buildings in Barcelona.

Which local star in any field should the world outside of Britain and Ireland know about?

I really enjoy Republic of Telly and think Jennifer Maguire is everything about Irish humour that's so funny.

What is your greatest regret?

I try to twist things into positive outcomes, but I regret not travelling for a while after finishing college.

What is your ultimate guilty pleasure?

Crappy TV. I'm watching Revenge at the minute. I say it 'massages my brain'.

Who is/was the love of your life?

My boyfriend Conor. We've known each other for years.

What is your present state of mind?

I'm excited. I'm working in television which is terrific, if at times I feel out of my comfort zone. And my design business is doing really well too.

What are the consolations of getting older?

Being independent. Having the freedom to make your own decisions.

What living heroes or heroines do you have?

My mum Patricia. She was a single mum and raised myself and my brother Aaron while running her own business. She was happy and never let anything get to her too much.

What is your best chat-up line?

I was desperate at chat-up lines. I found the cheesier they were, the better they worked on me. Cheesy breaks the ice.

What is the best lesson life has taught you?

You need to rely on yourself.

Interior designer Roisin Lafferty is a judge on RTE1's Super Garden which airs on Thursday at 8.30pm. She is a Cuprinol colour consultant.
