The childhood home of foreign secretary Boris Johnson has gone on the market for £11.25m (€12.88m).

One of the most recognisable properties in Primrose Hill, the "Rocking Horse House" – so-called because of the wooden rocking horse that stood for years in the front bay window – is located at 60 Regent’s Park Road, and covers 5,226 sq ft across five floors.

Home to Stanley Johnson, his wife and his six children for a period of 10 years, the Victorian townhouse has welcomed a number of dignitaries, members of Parliament and other notable individuals, and was the base of various television interviews as Boris won the mayoral race in 2008 while living at the home.

Dating back to the 1820s, when Regent’s Park Road was originally built, the pastel pink house features a pillared entrance portico and large ground floor bay windows, four bedrooms and four bathrooms, sizeable reception rooms, a family kitchen / breakfast room, a cinema room, study and wine cellar.

It has been modernised by its current owners, who bought the property in 2010.

The Johnsons first lived in the exclusive neighbourhood of Primrose Hill in the 1970s, with a young Boris and Rachel Johnson attending Primrose Hill Primary School.

After moving to Brussels and then to Oxford to pursue his career in the European Commission, Johnson Sr returned to Primrose Hill in 1994 with his second wife Jenny and their two youngest children Julia and Max, moving to 60 Regent’s Park Road.

A generation afterwards, Boris would similarly go on to win a scholarship to Eton and another to Oxford.

Richard Bernstone, director at Aston Chase, which is managing the sale, said: “This is unquestionably a special and iconic Primrose Hill property, once the home of Lukas Heller, screenwriter of Whatever happened to Baby Jane in the 1960s, and most famously the family home of Stanley and Jenny Johnson."

He added: "For many years it was known ‘locally’ as The Rocking Horse House due to the beautiful wooden rocking horse placed by the Johnsons who carried on the tradition of the previous owners which was clearly visible in the front bay window.”

Patriarch Stanley Johnson, 77, is also father to Jo Johnson, the MP for Orpington, Leo Johnson, a partner at PwC, and Rachel Johnson, a journalist, TV presenter and recent Celebrity Big Brother housemate.

Stanley also recently completed a stint on reality TV, featuring on the 17th series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
