Three-bed home close to former Ongar Stud for sale at €300,000
16 Oakview Drive, Clonsilla, D15 €300k
In some circumstances, it doesn't take much to get a street named after you. Actress Rita Hayworth was married, briefly, to Prince Aly Khan, son of the Aga Khan, who owned Ongar Stud in Clonsilla, now Dublin 15.
It was her third marriage, and it lasted less than two years, beginning in 1949 and ending (unofficially at least) in 1951, but thanks to Rita's occasional visits to Clonsilla in that time, there's now a Hayworth Mews, Rise, Close, Court, Drive, Place and Terrace.
These are estates built on the lands of the former stud farm from the early 2000s, and it's a safe enough bet that those born there since might have never even heard of the Hollywood 'Love Goddess'.
Oakview Drive in Clonsilla arrived considerably earlier than the Hayworth array, but it's not seven furlongs (in horse parlance) from the former Ongar Stud. The neighbourhood today is more favourable to dog-lovers than horsey types, as it's on the border of Hartstown Dog Park.
No16 Oakview Drive, for instance, is two minutes' walk from the park. It's a semi-detached house near the end of a cul de sac with a west-facing back garden that's not particularly dog-friendly, having artificial grass and paving.
The house was extended in 2010 to make for a bigger kitchen/diner at the back, which now measures some 24ft by 16ft. It has a faulted ceiling lit by a skylight, a centre island with a breakfast bar, and French doors to the back garden.
At the front of the house is a living room about 14ft by 11ft, with a fireplace, and there are double doors from there to the kitchen as well.
The first floor has three bedrooms, two doubles and a single, and the total floor space comes to 1,163 sq ft.
No16 is for sale for €300,000 with DNG Castleknock (01) 820 2800.
