Space aplenty inside and out at Woodlands View in County Kildare
Woodlands View, Brockagh €529k
Woodlands Golf Club in Co Kildare is a rather sad Celtic Tiger story. Originally a modest enough nine-hole course, it expanded to 18 holes and was officially opened by the then finance minister, Charlie McCreevy, in 2000.
A swanky new 7,000 sq ft clubhouse was added in 2006 with the help of bank loans, but ultimately the club expanded beyond its reach. Debt got out of control and it was placed into receivership in 2013.
In December of that year it sold at auction for €650,000, and is now apparently slowly returning to nature.
Across the road from the course is 'Woodlands View', which appeared in the neighbourhood about a year after Charlie McCreevy did, having been built in 2001.
This property has fared better than the golf club though, and its two acres of grounds are still being carefully tended.
It's in good order inside too, and there's a lot of space to care for here, with a 3,300 sq ft floor area. That includes five bedrooms - four on the ground floor (one with an en suite wet room) and one upstairs in the dormer attic.
The downstairs living rooms consist of a dual-aspect lounge with a fireplace and French doors, and a dining room, also with French doors, and on the first floor a family room with a timber ceiling, and a study.
The kitchen is fitted with maple cabinets and a solid-fuel range.
There's also a utility room with rear door access.
The grounds (2.125 acres in all) include a paddock and an equine shelter, and should you be looking for more living space, there's also a 1,200 sq ft detached garage.
The property is in Brockagh, about two kilometres from Robertstown village and half an hour's drive from the outskirts of Dublin.
It's for sale for €529,000 with Sherry FitzGerald Reilly in Clane (045) 868 412.
