Number 11 Greenlea Road, Terenure, Dublin 6W, is for sale for €795,000 with Sherry FitzGerald Terenure (01 490 7433)
When Terenure College opened as a secondary school for boys in 1860, it was surrounded by open fields and parkland featuring a lake.
The lake became badly polluted in recent years, with opaque water and a pungent smell, so in 2012, the management of the college commissioned a Dublin company to clean it using natural bacterial agents. It worked, and is now the main attraction in the Terenure College Lake Wildlife Walk.
This nature trail, featuring ornamental trees, wildflowers and waterbirds, remains one of Terenure's best-kept secrets, though everyone is welcome to use it.
Only a short walk away is Number 11 Greenlea Road, around the corner from the college.
It's a four-bedroom bungalow, renovated and extended to a design by Anello Architects of Grafton Street, whose paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Unit in Drogheda has been shortlisted for this year's RIAI Public Choice Awards.
The entrance is to the side of the house. Off the entrance hall, towards the back of the house, there's a family room, measuring a little over 22 feet by 11, with two sets of doors to the garden. Opposite, at the front, there's a bedroom or home office, and a bathroom.
The extension out the back accommodates an open-plan kitchen and dining room measuring over 27ft by 14ft, with French doors to the garden. This room has a quirky semi-pitched roof allowing space for skylights.
There are three bedrooms upstairs, one of which has an ensuite, as well as another toilet. The house is heated by gas-fired central heating and has a pumped water system.
The south-facing back garden features a split-level decked patio, a small, manageable lawn, and lots of trees and shrubs.
