Remember the big freeze of January 2010, when extreme weather caused millions in damage to homes across the country? Well, the big freeze is back and in this video special we run through top tips to ensure that you protect your house and home this winter.

First of all, make sure that your pipes are properly insulated – this will prevent them from freezing and bursting – which can cause immense water damage to your home.

If you are going away this winter it’s important to ensure that you turn your water off at the mains, empty your tank and leave the taps open.

You should also ensure that your immersion is turned off.

Finally, leave your attic hatch open – this will allow warm air to circulate and will help prevent your pipes from freezing.
