Assessing Agent: DNG McKenna Healy.

The Market:

Skerries, Loughshinny and Swords all performed strongly according to Margaret Healy of DNG McKenna Healy who saw homes in these locations put on an average of a percent a month through the last year.

In established seaside towns, four-bed semis are in most demand. Lusk and Rush were especially targeted by first time buyers with most chasing two and three bed abodes.

There was also a strong demand for apartments from owner occupiers with the agency noting a definite new trend towards trading down from older stock to better types of apartments.

Buyers who grew up in Skerries jumped in to take advantage of historically low values after having been priced out during the boom years. Greenlawns and Selskar estates were most popular with this segment.

Howth and Malahide properties must be considered a separate market, carrying as they do, a hefty premium. Two-bed apartments here can fetch €400,000 with good sea views sought after. Four-bed detached houses have recently pushed up to €900,000 in a poor condition while up to €2m wouldn't be unusual for a decent sized detached property in these enclaves.
