Plenty to do near Galway Bay
13 Renville Village €320k
The townland of Renville West, on a peninsula overlooking Galway Bay, was once something of a playground for the Lynch-Athy family, one of Galway's 'tribes', who had the place almost entirely to themselves.
It's a more densely populated neighbourhood these days but it still has something of the playground about it.
The Lynch-Athy mansion, Renville (or Rinville) House, is now a glorious, ivy-covered ruin, but the demesne has become Renville Park, with a playground and woodland walks. Also in the park is Rinville Castle, a tower house which is curiously less ruined than the house that was built several centuries after it.
On the western end of the peninsula is Galway Bay Golf Resort and Country Club, and to the south is Galway Bay Sailing Club. It's a lot of amusement for some three-and-a-half square kilometres, and nestled right in the thick of it all is Renville Village - a 1990s-built development next to the golf course.
Number 13 Renville Village is about 100 metres from the entrance to the golf club, and from the ruined mansion, and has good views of Galway Bay.
These are best enjoyed from the balcony off the master bedroom on the first floor, which also has an en-suite with a claw-foot bath.
There are two more bedrooms upstairs and a fourth on the ground floor (also en-suite).
The other main downstairs room is a big, L-shaped and open-plan kitchen, living room and dining room with a beamed ceiling and a brick fireplace. The floor area is 1,800 sq ft in total.
It's about five kilometres from here to Oranmore and a 20-minute drive to Galway city. Management fees are €650 a year.
Number 13 Renville Village is for sale for €320,000 with Sherry FitzGerald Galway (091) 569 123.
