It looks like new residents at Carrickmines Green, a scheme of apartments and penthouses on the Glenamuck Road, won't have to go too far to spruce up their interiors on the cheap - Ikea announced this week that it is planning to open its second Irish outlet at The Park in Carrickmines this summer.

Last weekend's timing of the launch of the final phase at Carrickmines Green was fortuitous, with the Swedish furniture retailer revealing its plan for the nearby retail complex on Monday.

However, the 12 two-bed apartments and penthouses in the release are selling out fast - by Tuesday, selling agent Knight Frank had taken in deposits on five of the units.

The rental yield on the apartments make them especially appealing to investors, with prices starting at €265,000 and two-beds in the area commanding monthly rent of between €1,400 and €1,600. There is just one apartment - a ground-floor unit - left in the latest tranche and the other six units are penthouses of three different varieties. Prices for those start at €310,000.

The penthouses make the most of the development's setting at the foothill of the Dublin Mountains, with dual aspects and glass balustrade wrap-around balconies.

The homes were completed six years ago by Laragan Developments before a receiver was appointed by Nama. The properties were then rented out and, after the tenants gradually moved out, Knight Frank oversaw a complete refit of the units and put them back on the market.

Another phase of apartments and four and five-bed houses is expected to be completed at Carrickmines Green from next year, with a show unit available for viewing as soon as the end of 2016.

The existing apartments and penthouses count wooden floors and polished granite kitchen workshops among their interior features. There is extensive wall and floor tiling to all of the revamped kitchens and ivory doors and frames on the bedroom wardrobes. The external doors have an ash veneer.

Outside, there are attractive communal areas and gardens. Each unit comes with its own designated car space and there are parking spaces for visitors too.

Carrickmines Green is just off exit 15 on the M50 and is a few minutes' drive from Dundrum Town Centre. The Luas green line extension is within walking distance.
