New energy loans get green light

To help homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, a new loan scheme is available to those who wish to also avail of the government grants from the Better Energy Homes scheme.

Permanent TSB will provide loans of between €2,500 and €25,000 for use in conjunction with the cash grants that are available to part-fund energy-saving works, such as heating- control upgrades and solar heating.

Once the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland approves a homeowner for a grant, they can apply to PTSB for a Green Loan to begin work on their home.

Loans will be available at a range of interest rates, with lowest rates for the larger loans. Loans up to €4,999 are at 12.2pc; loans up to €8,999 are at 11.25pc; and for loans up to €25,000 the rates are 10.4pc. For further information, check out www.permanenttsb.ie.

Full details of the Better Energy Homes scheme grants, including how to apply, are available at www.seai.ie/betterenergyhome.
