Unusually among retirees, professional golfers probably don't welcome the chance to have more time for golf when they quit the day job.
By the early 2000s, for instance, Seve Ballesteros was scaling back his playing career, and he used the free time to devote himself more fully to his golf course design business.
One of his accomplishments in that line was the 18-hole Heritage golf course at Killenard in Laois. It's the only Ballesteros-designed course in Ireland, and it opened back in 2004. The Heritage Resort also includes a hotel, spa, gym, swimming pool and restaurants.
Abut 10 minutes' walk from the Heritage is the small and quite exclusive estate of Carriglea, consisting of a series of cul-de-sacs lined with large, detached houses.
No23 has a nice spot in the estate as it fronts on to a sizeable common, some 150 metres long, lawned and dotted with trees. The house itself is 2,977 sq ft and expensively fitted out, with an open-string, bifurcated stairs in the entrance hall setting quite a grand tone.
The main reception room is a fairly vast 30ft by 14ft and dual-aspect, and the kitchen, also dual-aspect, is inclined to rival it for size at 23ft by 13ft. It's fitted out with quartz countertops and has a centre island with a breakfast bar.
The ground floor also has a family room giving on to a conservatory, with French doors to the lawned garden. The first floor has four bedrooms (two ensuite) and a bathroom with bath and double shower.
Mercifully in view of the house's size, it has a B3 BER to help contain your heating costs and a central vacuum system to help contain your temper while hoovering.
