Living the D4 dream: Classic city bolthole in Donnybrook
Aisling, 8 Morehampton Mews, D4 €375k
Morehampton Mews is a tiny, gated community of houses and apartments off Morehampton Road in Donnybrook. These are what you might call classic city boltholes - secure, chic, easily manageable, and right in the thick of Dublin 4, with parking.
A cosy urban pied-à-terre was just what the current owner of 8 Morehampton Mews was looking for. She bought the place new in 1985 and has lived in it - on and off, in between travelling to almost 100 countries - ever since.
The house, known as 'Aisling', has just had a new roof fitted and is generally in very good order inside.
It's an easily maintained space anyway, at just 468 sq ft, with white walls and timber ceilings, Scandinavian-style.
There's just one main living room but it's an imposing one with a ceiling height of just under 16ft.
It has a wood-panelled ceiling and a pine floor, and in the middle of the room is an unusual brick fireplace with a gas-fitted stove.
Taking advantage of that ceiling height, there's a mezzanine level reached from open-tread stairs in the living room.
It's brightly lit with roof windows and would make a useful study, reading room or den, or indeed a guest bedroom,
Otherwise the one bedroom (unless you intend to camp out upstairs) is at the back of the house and next to it is the bathroom where there's a bath with an overhead shower.
The kitchen is open-plan to the living room and is relatively small, at about eight foot square, but it's fully kitted out and has a floor-to-ceiling window.
One parking space is allocated to the house and an annual management fee applies, which for 2019 is €2,116.
'Aisling' is for sale for €375,000 with Janet Carroll (087) 400 2020.
