Kilkenny hotel's new lease of life
THE new owners of Kilkenny River Court Hotel are planning a full refurbishment in the next 18 months as they look to boost traffic at the property.
The Irish Independent revealed that the hotel had been sold for €9m to the Neville Group earlier this month.
Now the firm has revealed its plans for the hotel.
The River Court Hotel will be run by directors Seamus, Brendan and Therese Neville. Many of the staff working in the hotel have been there since it opened in 1999.
According to Therese Neville, the hotel is "the perfect fit for us in the South East".
She added: "We chose the River Court for its reputation, location and team of loyal experienced staff. The River Court is uniquely positioned on the banks of the River Nore, with a marvellous terrace for all types of occasions. And the spectacular backdrop of Kilkenny's 12th century castle makes the River Court the perfect venue for couples, families and weddings."
The hotel employs some 80 staff and Ms Neville confirmed staff levels are expected to remain more or less unchanged in the months ahead.
Declan Moriarty, general manager of the River Court since 2012, commented: "It's fantastic for the River Court and its staff to have a local Irish buyer with such a vested community interest, especially in a time when such large chunks of the Irish property market is being bought up, mainly by foreign investors."
