In touch with nature
Former Olympian and retired Irish national rugby team member, Victor Costello always had a penchant for County Leitrim with its laid-back lifestyle, ample lakes, friendly neighbours and hospitable pubs and restaurants.
For the majority of his of his 36 years, he has spent any available time off-pitch and away from training at this home a few miles from Ballinamore, originally a childhood holiday location that has become a second home for him. He went to the Olympics in 1992 for shot putting but subsequently gave this up in favour of the Irish rugby scene, where he excelled from 1994 to 2004.
Having acquired 39 caps for Ireland and 128 caps for Leinster, Victor retired from professional rugby in 2005 and embarked on a training course for a commercial pilot's licence in Florida, which is now almost completed. He is also involved in property development on the beautiful Marco island, but intends to return home seeking a pilot position in the near future.
With one home in Dublin, and two in Co Leitrim, Victor decided reconfigure his property portfolio by putting his 150 sqm, three-bed bungalow overlooking St John's lake on the market for what appears to be a good value price.
Rarely does property overlooking the Shannon-Erne waterway come to the market and this home also has the benefit of mooring/launch facilities for boats nearby.
Landscaped gardens, decking and a separate garage flank this home, which stands on a half-acre site and is well maintained.
It comprises a living room with timber floor and fireplace, dining room, fully-fitted kitchen, family bathroom and three bedrooms; the master en suite.
But Victor is not abandoning his beloved Ballinamore; it simply means too much to him with wonderful childhood memories associated with the area.
He hopes to retain another property close by and to continue his frequent forays there with friends and family, not to mention his love of boat trips and fishing.
