The Casino at Marino is so-called because 'casino' is the Italian word for a little house. This gives the Marino Casino something in common with 35 St Declan's Road, a terraced property about 350 metres away as the crow flies. Number 35 is not as small as it looks from the front, however. It's 1,076 sq ft, with three bedrooms and a bathroom stowed behind the mansard roof on the first floor. Downstairs there's a living room and a dining room, both with fireplaces, and an extended, skylit kitchen with doors to a deck in the south-west-facing back garden.

53 Shelmartin Avenue

You'll have the chance to be right in the heart of the Marino community at 53 Shelmartin Avenue. It's immediately next door to Carleton Hall, the local community centre, where there are regular activities and gatherings including art classes, pilates and a film club. Number 53 is connected to the hall by its adjoining garage, which is ripe for conversion if you can get planning. Elsewhere on the ground floor there are two reception rooms, both with fireplaces, and a kitchen, utility room and wetroom. Upstairs are three bedrooms and another bathroom, in an overall floor area of 1,033 sq ft.

38 Brian Road

Number 38 Brian Road is several houses standing exactly on the spot where Marino House once stood, Marino House being the residence of James Caulfield, who commissioned the Casino in the 18th century. There used to be a tunnel linking the house and the Casino but it's now blocked, so if you want to visit the monument you'll have to go by road like everyone else. Number 38 is at the end of a terrace and has gained a kitchen extension at the back. There are also two reception rooms - a dining room and a living room - on this floor. The first floor has the three bedrooms, two doubles and a single.

12 St Declan’s Road

12 St Declan's Road

The last time 12 St Declan's Road was sold was in 2011, amid an unprecedented trough in property values nationally. It fetched €220,000 in March of that year, according to the Property Price Register. It's now back on the market at more than double that price but in good condition, with smart new aluminium windows to brighten it up. It's measures 990 sq ft with two wood-floored reception rooms on the ground floor, both with open fires. At the back is a small (8ft by 7ft) kitchen giving onto the back garden, where there's a patio and lawn. The three bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs.
