Four on the market for auction in Dublin
A choice of four Dublin properties which are available for auction.
'Everton', 137 Dublin Road, Sutton, D13
AMV €795k REA Grimes, (01) 554 2470
Old Ordnance Survey maps suggest 'Everton', or Number 137 Dublin Road, was built right next to a moat. Early reports suggest the mound contained a burial but was destroyed in the 1920s. But who knows, there might be archaeological treasures in the garden and, as 'Everton' is on a 0.32 acre site, you'll be kept busy digging for a while if you wish to search for potential hidden artefacts of ancient times. The house itself is 1,690 sq ft with four first-floor bedrooms, and three reception rooms and a kitchen downstairs, and it needs modernisation. It will be auctioned on Thursday, October 12, in the Marine Hotel.
19 Brendan Road, Donnybrook, D4
AMV €1.2m Knight Frank, (01) 634 2466
Brendan Road was built in the 1920s by Batt O'Connor TD, on land that used to be known as the Forty Acres, on the edge of Herbert Park. Consequently residents there have ready access to the park, less than five minutes' walk away. Number 19 has been in the hands of the same family for 50 years, and has period features including stained glass and fireplaces. There are four upstairs bedrooms, and the ground floor has two connected reception rooms and an eat-in kitchen. It's 2,024 sq ft inside, plus an attic, and there's a 65ft back garden. It goes to auction on Wednesday, September 27 at 2.30pm.
60 Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, D8
AMV €330k DNG Central, (01) 679 4088
The poet Michael Hartnett moved to Tyrconnell Road in the 1980s, and wrote his 'Inchicore Haiku' there. If you hoped to be similarly inspired, you could set up your typewriter at Number 60, which is to be auctioned on September 28. The house, which needs some renovation, measures 1,507 sq ft. Accommodation includes four bedrooms on the first floor, and a fifth on the ground floor at the back, which might alternatively be a poet's study or home office. The ground floor also has two reception rooms and a kitchen, and there's a 50ft garden out the back with a garage opening onto a rear lane.
31 Mountjoy Square East, D1
AMV €580k DNG Central, (01) 679 4088
Although it has been divided into eight flats, Number 31 Mountjoy Square East might be converted back to a family home, if your taste runs to splendid Georgian townhouses needing complete refurbishment. It's on four storeys over a raised basement, and measures a whopping 4,758 sq ft, and helpfully enough it still has its timber sash windows and wrought-iron balconies on the first floor. Number 31 looks west over Mountjoy Square park itself, where there's a playground and sports areas. It will be auctioned at 11am on Thursday, September 28, at the Leopardstown Pavilion, Leopardstown Racecourse.
