74 Clonliffe Road

Roseville was reportedly built in 1898 by a doting father for his daughter Rose, along with Mayville next door, for her sister. By the 1911 census, though, it was occupied by the Garrett family, including 18-year-old George Charles Garrett, who would later go off and join the Canadian Expeditionary Force in World War I. Roseville in Drumcondra is in need of refurbishment but has some good period features and lovely proportions in its 2,530 sq ft, and a very pleasant 110ft back garden. The ground floor has the kitchen and two linked reception rooms, and the five bedrooms are on the upper floors.

39 Charlestown Park

If you lived at 39 Charlestown Park, near St Margaret's Road in Finglas, you would never again have an excuse for missing a flight, as the house is less than 10 minutes' drive from Dublin airport. Number 39 is a five-bedroom semi measuring 1,542 sq ft on three floors. The whole top floor is given over to an attic bedroom with an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe, and the other four bedrooms (one en-suite) are on the first floor. On the ground floor there's a living room at the front, with an open fire, and a kitchen at the back with sliding patio doors to a neat garden.

46 Iona Road

The Edwardian period features in 46 Iona Road are almost all intact, including fireplaces, stained glass and corniced ceilings. The place does need quite a lot of refurbishment though. It's 2,054 sq ft on two main floors and there's an attic level too, where there's a bedroom and a study. The other four bedrooms are on the first floor and return, while the ground floor has two potentially superb reception rooms with sliding doors between. Also on this level there's a kitchen and dining room and a downstairs bathroom, and the kitchen gives access to a 90ft lawned back garden with fruit trees.

Cashelmara, 31 Shielmartin Road, D13

€695k  Sherry FitzGerald Sutton, (01) 839 4022

It's a three-minute walk down to the coast from Cashelmara, at Shielmartin Road in Sutton. Once there you can turn right and walk down Strand Road towards Sutton Dinghy Club, where they'll teach you to sail. Cashelmara is a detached house measuring 1,873 sq ft inside, and with a nicely secluded 86ft garden out the back. The ground floor has a dual-aspect living room running the full length of the house, with a stone fireplace. Also on this level there's a wood-floored dining room and an eat-in kitchen, and the kitchen gives onto a conservatory overlooking the back garden. The five bedrooms (with one en-suite) are all on the first floor.
