Four on the market: country homes in Wexford

Ballybaun Stud
Pres de la Plage

A selection of four very impressive country homes which are currently on the market in Wexford.

Près de la Plage, Ballyregan, Killinick

 €249k Keane Auctioneers, (053) 912 3072

Pres de la Plage

'Près de la Plage' might have been somewhat misnamed; it's not particularly close to any one beach but is within a comfortable distance of many of the best beaches in the county. Près des Plages might have been more accurate. Built in the early 2000s in the Georgian style, complete with wrought-iron gates and a long driveway flanked by lawns, it has three first-floor bedrooms (one en suite) and one main ground-floor reception room - a triple-aspect sitting room with a brick fireplace. There's also an open-plan kitchen/dining room with patio doors.

Ballyteigue House & Stud Farm, Park, Kilmore Quay

€695k Kehoe & Associates, (053) 914 4393

There are 48 acres of land going with Ballyteigue House, Kilmore Quay, including a stable yard with 12 loose boxes, a tack room, shed and sand arena. The house itself sprawls over 3,230 sq ft and has six bedrooms, three on the ground floor and three upstairs, with an en suite on each floor. By way of living rooms, there's an L-shaped kitchen and dining room with an Aga and French doors, as well as a sitting room, also with French doors and with a raised brick fireplace. The grounds also include lawned gardens with mature trees and a detached garage. Kilmore Quay is six kilometres away.

Coole, Ballymurn Road, Castlebridge

 €575k Sherry FitzGerald Haythornthwaite, (053) 914 6046

The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage lists this detached farmhouse on seven acres at Coole as being built in 1875 and owned by a succession of gentleman farmers. It has period features including an open-string stairs, ceiling coving, sash windows and original fireplaces, but it could stand a little modernising now. The ground floor has a big square kitchen and two reception rooms - a living room and a drawing room - with a wood-panelled library squeezed between them. Upstairs are four bedrooms, three with fireplaces, in a total floor area of 2,257 sq ft.

Ballybaun Stud, Rathnure, Enniscorthy

€900k Sherry FitzGerald Country Homes, (01) 237 6300

Ballybaun Stud

Built on the site of a former corn mill on the Borough River, Ballybaun Stud stands on 42.5 acres with equestrian facilities in a courtyard behind the house. The house measures 2,799 sq ft on two floors, with four reception rooms and a kitchen on the ground floor, and four bedrooms upstairs (one with an en suite and walk-in wardrobe). There's also staff accommodation on the grounds in the shape of a two-storey apartment with an open-plan kitchen/living and dining room downstairs and an en suite bedroom upstairs.
