Four homes currently on the market in Rathfarnham
A selection of four properties of distinction currently available to buy in Rathfarnham.
1 Woodtown Cottages, Killakee Road
€595k JLL Residential, (01) 673 1600
A submission was made to South Dublin County Council to include Woodtown Cottages on its Record of Protected Structures. The council decided against, however, on the basis that the buildings were "of slight historical interest and of very modest architectural character". Despite the faint praise, they are attractive little early 20th-century houses and they have views that would be the envy of many a city mansion owner. Number 1 is on just over 0.3 of an acre of pleasant gardens that seem to absorb the city views to the north. It's 861 sq ft with three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen-diner, all needing a little modernising now.
1 Airpark Court
€550k DNG Rathfarnham, (01) 490 4666
Airpark Court is just to the south of the Ballyboden water treatment plant, where they're in the process of building a new covered reservoir at a cost of €10.5m. In any case, the occupant of Number 1 will be less concerned than most about a future drought because the back garden is low-maintenance, with paving and artificial grass. You reach it from the extended kitchen and family room where there's a wall of windows and a stove in the fireplace. The ground floor also has a living room, and there are three bedrooms (one en-suite). Above that is a converted two-room attic, giving a total floor area of 1,238 sq ft.
Barleybank, Killakee Road
€875k Quillsen Terenure, (01) 406 4500
Barleybank was designed by BKD Architects, who were also responsible for the Custom House Dock development and Dundrum Town Centre. The 2,045 sq ft house was designed to make the most of its long-range views over the city, and it's on half an acre of grounds that include a children's tennis court. By way of reception rooms there's a dual-aspect drawing room, a dining room, and a family room with sliding patio doors, as well as an eat-in kitchen, and there's also a 135 sq ft studio. There are four bedrooms (one en-suite) and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath.
1A Prospect View, Prospect Manor
€425k DNG Rathfarnham (01) 490 4666
When it was built in about 1820, Prospect Hill once dominated the landscape on the eastern side of Stocking Lane in Rathfarnham. Though the house is still there, it's now surrounded by the modern estate that is Prospect Manor. Number 1A Prospect View is tucked into a corner site, with the leafy banks of the Owendoher River to the east of it. It's a home that might suit a downsizer who's fond of the neighbourhood, as it measures just 936 sq ft. The first floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom while downstairs there's a bay-windowed front living room and a skylit kitchen with sliding doors to the garden.
