Geashill in Co Offaly was developed by the Digby family in the 1800s as a planned estate village. The result was a well-ordered layout that consisted of mostly thatched cottages arranged around a triangular green.

Over the years, the buildings were improved, knocked down, rebuilt or replaced to create the picturesque heritage town that was granted Architectural Conservation Area status in 2014 to protect the character of the village.

In the heart of the town is a cottage that has been completely renovated and extended by the current owners under the supervision of architects Goodwin and Lee.

With a floor area of 1,830sq ft, the house is entered through the front hall with the living room/dining area to one side and the kitchen and utility on the other. The kitchen has a travertine floor and a teak centre island, as well as an oil-fired Stanley range and integrated Siemens appliances.

A glass corridor connects to the newer part of the house, where there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room, while the main bathroom has a bath with a Hansgrohe raindance shower and a wall-mounted heated towel rail.

The house sits on a 0.47-acre site. To the front is a gravel driveway and a lawn. At the back is a stone patio, steel shed and a garden that’s definitely big enough to host a five-a-side match. It has a security alarm installed and is connected to fibre broadband.

Village amenities are within walking distance, with the local primary school directly across the road. Tullamore is a 16- minute drive away and Portarlington is a 13-minute drive.

Sherry FitzGerald Lewis Hamill (057) 932 0862 has set a guide price of €420,000.
