Equestrian fans may wish to jump new boundaries in Offaly
Kilkeeran, Portarlington, Co Laois €550k
By one of those peculiarities of the postal system, the inhabitants of the townland of Kilkeeran have an official address in Co Laois but in fact live well within the boundaries of Co Offaly.
The reason is Kilkeeran's proximity to Portarlington, five kilometres away and itself barely inside the Laois border.
But whatever about the potential for divided loyalties in culture and sport that might have arisen from this, there has not been much time for factionalism to develop on the political front at least. Laois and Offaly were a combined Dáil constituency until 2016 and will be again for the next general election, so the locals will have their choice of Cowens and Flanagans once again.
Equestrian fans who fancy a punt on the fortunes of the Laois-Offaly constituency next time out might also take an interest in one vast, detached house occupying 3.162 acres of the townland. It comes with three stables and a tack room, as well as a shed, and there's a dog run as well, since it's unlikely you'll keep horses and not keep at least one dog.
Built in the late 1990s, the house itself is 4,500 sq ft and there's also a separate one-bedroom apartment where you can house your groom, or your granny.
The main house has five bedrooms, three of them with en-suite shower. The main bedroom upstairs is 30ft long and has a dressing room as well. The main bathroom is on the ground floor and has a jacuzzi bath and a separate walk-in shower.
By way of living rooms, there's one main reception room with a granite fireplace, as well as a big kitchen/ dining room with doors to both the garden and to a sunroom.
The agent is Kate O'Shea (086) 798 1888 and the asking price is €550,000.
