Energy-efficient Delgany mansion can be yours for €1.7m
Unless you're the kind of person who never lets practicality get in the way of a grandiose notion, you're likely to be a bit daunted by the prospect of a 6,500 sq ft house. Will you have to get a second job to pay the heating bills? Or will you have to give up work altogether so as to have enough time to do all that cleaning?
Glendasan, a modern, 6,500 sq ft mansion at Convent Road in Delgany, does away with some of those worries at least.
First, it has a B3 energy rating, with oil-fired zoned central heating and double glazing, so at least the heat that you're paying for has a reasonable chance of staying inside the house.
As for the cleaning, Glendasan has a built-in vacuum system, including a crumb sucker and baseboard vacuums in the kitchen and utility. You might still spend half the day vacuuming, but at least you won't be lugging a recalcitrant Henry all over the house.
That 6,500 sq ft includes six bedrooms, five on the first floor and one downstairs. Four have en-suites, and three of the upstairs bedrooms have balconies.
The entrance hall on the ground floor has an imposing oak staircase and a fireplace, and around it are several living rooms. These include a lounge and dining room linked by double doors, a TV room or playroom, a study, and an L-shaped kitchen and breakfast room.
There's a lofted double garage adjoining the house, and the selling agents say its upper floor could be easily turned into guest accommodation.
The two sections of the house are linked by a raised limestone courtyard reached by four sets of French doors. Elsewhere, the grounds include lawns, a newly planted orchard, a patio with an outdoor fireplace, and various scented shrubberies, all set behind electronic gates.
Glendasan is for sale for €1.7m with Dooley Auctioneers (01) 201 0300.
