If the new owners of 8A Station Road in Sutton, Dublin 13, plan on lounging around much in the back garden, they might want to give careful thought to what they're wearing.

The garden backs directly on to Sutton Golf Course, a club that has quite fastidious ideas about proper attire. Under the Sutton dress code, you're not allowed to wear jeans, tracksuits, collarless shirts or training shoes, and you must not wear your trousers tucked into your socks (in case that's something you've been making a habit of). Clearly it would be preferable if you didn't wear shorts but if you absolutely must, then they should be tailored and should reach to your knees, and you must wear knee-length socks with them or failing that, short white socks.

As it happens there's quite a bit of mature verdure supplying privacy between the garden and the golf course, so the members shouldn't be able to see you there in your dressing gown, with your pyjamas tucked into your socks.
