Chapter and verse in Co Galway
It was about 12 years ago that poet Susan Lindsay made the move from Dublin to Galway. It had been her dream to live on the west coast for years, so she did her research, decided on an area and searched for the right home.
When nothing turned up, Lindsay ended up advertising in the local paper. Her prayers were answered when the people who were in the process of building this stone cottage at Killeenaran, Kilcolgan, got in touch and she took over the project.
It was a shell of a building, so with the help of an architect and builders, the house was completed, the gardens landscaped and Lindsay became a Galway girl.
With a floor space of 2,600 sq ft, extra guests would never be a problem in this four-bed home.
The living room is decorated in traditional cottage style, with white-washed walls and wooden flooring. There is a solid fuel stove and double doors lead into the kitchen/dining room, where there's an oil-fired AGA and doors to a sunny patio bordered with colourful plants and shrubs.
Two of the four bedrooms are on the ground floor. Both are en-suite and one has a walk-in wardrobe. There is also a guest bathroom on this level.
The best room in the house is upstairs and is so large that it has been used to host workshops in the past. It's a comfortable family room with bookcases and an open fire, with enough windows in the sloped ceiling to feed in plenty of light.
Of the two bedrooms on this level, one is en-suite, and there's Stira stairs to the attic, which is partially floored.
The house sits on half an acre and has a pretty summerhouse at the end of the lawn.
It's for sale for €395,000 with Yvonne Sweeney Auctioneers in Oranmore (091) 795698
