Architect-designed contemporary cottage
Ullard House, Ullard, Co Laois
Four-bedroom architecturally-designed house on one acre
Located on the Kildare/Laois border, this 232sqm house has a very contemporary feel in both its design and decor. Built in 2002 by award-winning architect Paul Quilligan, who was inspired by the world-renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, the house makes the most of the available light and space to create large, high-ceiling rooms and passageways.
The house is south-facing with lots of large picture windows, white walls and French oak floors.
Three reception rooms form an L shape around a garden courtyard. This area can be separated from the bedrooms by sliding doors. There is also separate access to one of the bedrooms and bathroom.
The kitchen has an Aga, Franke sink, and Neff hob and oven. There is a separate pantry/utility room and a cloakroom.
The four bedrooms are all double and the master room is en suite.
As well as the courtyard area, there is a large lawned area with an orchard.
Pros: The design means the house is fully wheelchair accessible.
Cons: The garage is fairly small.
