A Victorian mansion beside Lough Derg
Tinarana House, Co Clare, sits on an estate of 244-acres with a private jetty and 2.3km of lake frontage and is being sold by receivers for €2m, writes Caitriona Murphy
Nestled deep in a 244-acre old estate of woodland and tree-lined paddocks in Co Clare, Tinarana House is a beautifully grand 19th Century Victorian mansion house.
The three-storey house extends to 1,344sqm (14,466sq ft) in size and includes 16 bedrooms, most of which are en suite. The mansion sits on an elevated site surrounded by sweeping lawns and an ornamental pond to the front.
To the rear, the house overlooks Lough Derg with its own private jetty and 2.3km of lake frontage.
Previously owned by Dr Paschal Carmody, Tinarana was operated for a time as a health farm, until he sold it to a development consortium a few years ago. Tinarana is now being sold on the instructions of receivers at Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
The ground floor of the Victorian mansion opens with a central hallway with a grand staircase. Off this hallway is the dining room and two interconnected drawing rooms that feature sweeping views of the lake outside.
Another hallway leads to a study, gym room and a commercial kitchen.
The character of the main house remains intact, with decorative friezes, marble fireplaces, and recessed sash windows with shutters throughout.
There are 16 bedrooms over the first and second floors, most of which are en suite. At basement level there are two saunas with showering and changing facilities.
However the Tinarana estate also includes several smaller residences dotted around its 224 acres. The 53sqm (570sq ft) Victorian gate lodge at the estate entrance is comprised of a living room, kitchen and bedroom with en suite bathroom.
Deer Cottage, situated between the main house and the lake, comprises a sunroom, living room, kitchen, bedroom and en suite bathroom.
Stable Lodge is an 87sqm (934sq ft) property that includes a living room, kitchen, three bedrooms (two en suite), storeroom and main bathroom.
The 28sqm (301sq ft) Garden Cottage is located on the northwest boundary of the estate and is comprised of a kitchen, living room, bedroom and shower room.
Tinarana's original Victorian stable yard has been well maintained and recently improved by new roofs. The lofted buildings include four stables and a further four loose boxes in the coach houses. To the rear are a new block of six timber stables, an indoor arena, staff facilities and an outdoor sand arena.
Tinarana also has two boathouses, the bigger of which features a newly restored jetty and slipway.
The estate's 244.6 acres of land are divided into one large block of 222 acres and a smaller 14-acre block.
The biggest portion surrounds the house and is located between the main Killaloe-Ogonnelloe road and Lough Derg. It is divided into paddocks, mature woodland and forestry.
The smaller block of land adjoins the main estate and has its own access from Ogonnelloe village, with a right of way through it.
Tinarana is located 31km from Limerick city, 54km from Shannon Airport and 195km from Dublin. Lough Derg and its surrounds are popular for water sports, sailing, fishing and cruising on the Shannon.
The estate is 7.4km from the attractive heritage town of Killaloe and is also close to the Tipperary town of Ballina.
