Watch: Diarmuid Gavin's Garden of Pure Imagination will make your heart skip a beat

The Garden of Pure Imagination will be on display in Dundrum Town Centre's Pembroke Square from May 20.

The colorful garden features immaculate conical trees, topiary balls and an elegant brick folly which sits in front of a sunken rectangular pond.

However, this isn't just like any other garden. Every 15 minutes, flowerbeds rise from the ground while trees twirl and a wooden shed comes to life full of cogs and gardening gadgets.

The garden has seven moving parts and each show lasts just a minute and a half, yet it took three weeks to construct.

At the launch of the Garden of Pure Imagination, Diarmuid said: "The garden is based on the Willy Wonka tune, and I suppose it's inspired by the first time I saw the original Gene Wilder movie. When the gates of the chocolate factory opened and he let them into the chocolate mixing hall, the world of wonder that I saw there, I thought it was absolutely magic.

"It's also based on something that Guinness did at the 1951 Festival of Britain. They created a clock, and every 15 minutes people would queue up and wait, and I saw photos of loads of people just waiting. And what they were waiting for was this clock to perform. Every 15 minutes, advertising characters like the zoo keeper or the pelican would appear.

"So we've created a garden that looks pretty and kind of normal and kind of cartoonish.

"I hope people come and see it, wait for something to happen and enjoy the sort of garden devilment we have here in Dundrum."
