World's most obese man loses a whopping 27 stone in four and half months Newsdesk Newsdesk

Doctors in Mexico have pencilled in a date for the world's most obese man to undergo gastric bypass surgery after he lost a whopping 27 stone in four and a half months.

Patient Juan Pedro Franco, who once weighed more than half a tonne, has been dieting for months in the hopes of being approved for the life-changing surgery.

After shedding the stones at a specialist weight-loss clinic, Juan (32) is set to undergo the surgery in May.

Juan said the time was right for him to take the procedure now, so he wouldn't end up dying as a result of his weight.

"Some have passed away perhaps from sadness, or because they don't dare (to) ask for help," he told local media.

He urged people around the world in the same position as him to "ask for help, since it is possible".

Franco came to international attention last years, when he was admitted to the weight loss centre on a specially-adapted van to the city of Guadalajara.
