Sooty, a one-and-a-half-year-old rescue cat, lives with Sinéad Kennedy in Rathfarnham in Dublin and likes to rule the roost whenever she’s not going for jaunts in the car or on daily nature walks
While I was on holiday in August 2021, my nephew found a kitten. He discovered her all alone, under a hedge, and far too young to be without her mother. The poor little thing was in a very sorry state. Even though she was tiny, dishevelled, skinny and a little unusual-looking, she had an undeniable twinkle in her bright-blue eyes. I just knew the instant I saw her photo that she was full of sass, gumption and determination. There was no doubt in my mind, I was rescuing her as soon as I got home.
When I met her, my world changed in an instant. I called her Sooty and just wanted to smother her in love. However, all she was interested in was playtime and climbing absolutely everything she could.
It wasn’t long before Sooty started to blossom. Her blue eyes changed to emerald green and her scraggy kitten-fur changed into the softest coat. As if that wasn’t enough, her tail became her “unique selling point!” It’s like a jumbo-sized feather duster attached to a little cat.
Sooty is a year and a half old now. Being a cat, she does whatever she wants when she wants, which makes me love her even more. She doesn’t care if she walks over my face while I am asleep or if she sits on my laptop while I am trying to work.
She loves trips in the car and goes on a nature walk every day on her lead. If all that is not enough, she is an Instagram sensation and delights her 8,000-plus fans daily with her antics! She really is living her best life.
