Mindful moment… It's okay not to be liked

I came across a good quote on Instagram the other day that went something along the lines of: "Confidence is not knowing that everyone will like you but being OK if they don't."

It's tough not being liked. In our caveman days we relied on being part of the group in order to survive, which is why now, thousands of years later, rejection can feel like death, even when it's far from it.

But wanting to be liked all the time can be exhausting - especially when you drive yourself around the bend engaged in people-pleasing behaviour.

So, remember that we are no longer being hunted by a sabre-toothed tiger; if someone doesn't like us, it's not the end of the world. Far from it. People's reactions to us are usually a lot more about them than they are about us.
