Mindful moment… Which wolf are you feeding?
There is a parable in which a grandfather is explaining life to his grandson, saying: "There are two wolves inside of us which are always at war with each other. One of them is a good wolf, which represents things like kindness, bravery and love. The other is a bad wolf, which represents things like greed, hatred and fear." The grandson looks up at his grandfather and asks, "Which one wins?" The grandfather replies, "The one you feed."
Every day of our lives we have a choice: do we focus on what makes us angry, hateful and jealous, or do we put our efforts into being kind, brave and loving? Because both paths are always available to us - regardless of the circumstances.
Even if you are with people who make you mad, there's a way to take a breath and try to approach them with love and kindness. Even when the world feels full of injustice - and just switching on the news makes you incandescent with rage - there is a way to focus not on the anger but on the kind actions you can take to help others. We don't have control over a lot of things that happen to us but we do have control over how we respond to them.
Every day we have a choice to feed the bad wolf or the good one.
