Has anyone told you lately that you're doing absolutely great?

Has anyone told you that all your efforts at work, all the love you give your friends and family, all the times you smile at the person behind the counter in the shop even though you're in a really bad mood, make you into a bit of a hero?

Well, let me tell you that now: You're great. You're a hero. And so am I. We all are.

I've been realising lately just how hard each and every one of us is on ourselves - in our own minds, nothing that we ever do is enough, nothing is ever quite right. We constantly tell ourselves that we must try harder, do more, be more efficient, be skinnier, more loving. We should run marathons, lose pounds, work longer hours, keep in better contact, make more effort with our appearance… more, more, more.

But what if the way you are right now is just perfect? What if you give yourself a break and a pat on the back? What if, just for today, you silence that voice in your head that runs a constant to-do list from morning to night?

Take the day off. You deserve it.
