Mindful moment… Don't go it alone
In her book The Gifts of Imperfection, Brené Brown - a research professor at the University of Houston who has spent the past 16 years studying courage, vulnerability, empathy, and shame - writes: "A deep sense of love and belonging is an irreducible need of all people. We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, to be loved, and to belong.
"When those needs are not met we don't function as we are meant to. We break. We fall apart. We number. We ache. We hurt others. We get sick."
For some of us, it can be tempting to try to go it alone in life. We pride ourselves on independence and tell ourselves that we don't need anyone. However, we do.
As human beings, we need the love and support of others and it's only by asking for it that we heal ourselves and also each other.
If you are feeling low today, find someone, anyone, you can talk honestly to about your feelings. It's often the last thing we want to do but it's also the thing we most need to do.
