We all spend so much time fretting about the future, trying to prepare for every eventuality. What happens if I lose my job? Or never find love? How am I going to take care of my sick parents? Or provide for my children?
But the truth is that so much of life is out of control. Things can change in an instant - for better and for worse.
So, instead of keeping such a tight hold on everything, maybe we should learn to let go and just bob along on the sea of life.
According to John Parkin, author of F**k It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way, we care far too much about things that are beyond our control and damage the quality of our own lives in the process.
Parkin encourages people to embrace the profanity, lighten up and watch as things resolve themselves in the same way that they would if we'd put all of our energies into fretting about them.
Accept that when the bad things happen, we'll find a way to get through them and that then, often when you least expect it, something wonderful will happen to change everything.
